The Yoorrook Justice Commission presents a unique opportunity for Victoria’s Aboriginal community to speak truth to the continuing legacy and harm imposed by more than 200 years of colonisation. Djirra was pleased to contribute to Yoorrook’s inquiries through submissions and testimony on the child protection and criminal justice systems, and land injustice.
Djirra welcomes contributing to Yoorrook’s Inquiry into housing, health and education. Our submission is informed by our frontline work supporting Aboriginal women and children experiencing family violence. Our primary focus is housing and homelessness as all Djirra’s clients are directly impacted by housing insecurity. Family violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women and children.
